What is the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund (TMSF)?

The Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund is a prestigious scholarship program named after the iconic civil rights leader and the first African American Supreme Court Justice, Thurgood Marshall.

Founded in 1987 by N. Joyce Payne. The TMCF is designed exclusively for exceptional students at the nation’s 47 publicly-supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

The TMSF aims to provide financial assistance and support to outstanding students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs) across the United States.

To date the organization has awarded more than $300 million in such assistance to its students and member-schools. TMCF distributes 98% of its awards exclusively to HBCUs and PBIs, which is more than any other organization that supports the Black College Community.
