About Jimmy Rane Scholarship
The Jimmy Rane Foundation scholarships provides scholarships to students that exhibit academic excellence, leadership skills, community engagement, seal and passion to solve problem, hardworking and outstanding students to achieve their goals through the provision of scholarship worth of $5000 per year, the foundation has awarded over 560 scholarships since inception.
The Jimmy Rane Foundation scholarship established in 2000 by James W. “Jimmy” Rane with a simple, yet powerful idea: “It’s about giving something back to the society.”, strengthening the communities through education projects and grants. And that’s exactly what he and countless sponsors have been able to do since then.
Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarship Requirement and Eligibility
The eligibility criteria to be considered for a Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarship are as follows:
1.Scholarships from the Foundation shall be used only at an institution that normally maintains a regular faculty and curriculum, and normally has a regularly organized body of students in attendance at the place where the educational activities are carried on, and that is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as being accredited by recognized accrediting agencies
2. immediate family member, dependent and employee of Great Southern Wood Preserving, Incorporated, its parent, affiliates, subsidiaries are not eligible
3. Students must certify that they did not take part as a student-athlete (whether on partial or full athletic scholarship or otherwise) in intercollegiate sports during the prior semester (or quarter, if applicable) or academic year and will not participate as a student-athlete in intercollegiate athletics during the coming semester (or quarter, if applicable) or academic year.
4. Students seeking degrees through online or distance learning programs only shall not be eligible for Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarships
5. A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 for graduating high school seniors
6. A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 for college applicants;
7. Students enrolled full-time as a high school senior, progressing normally toward graduation in the Spring/Summer 2023, with plans to enter college no later than the Fall following graduation OR students enrolled full-time as a college freshman or sophomore, no older than 20 years of age as of August 1, 2023, and progressing normally toward a bachelor’s degree;
8. Applicants must be high school seniors or college freshmen or sophomores who are residents of Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia.
9. Applicants must be U.S. citizenship or permanent resident;
10. Online/distance learning courses are permitted when a part of the required curriculum is taught in the campus environment and when such a course is only available online or through distance learning.
11. Jimmy Rane Foundation scholars are students who exhibit academic excellence, leadership skills and community involvement as well as activities, awards and honours, and who have a showed financial need in order to attend college. They must demonstrate their desire and ability to overcome barriers and to achieve their goals.

The 2022 Jimmy Rane Foundation scholarship application will open December 1, 2022. Application deadline is in early February 2023.

Yes. If you are no older than 20 years of age as of August 1, 2023, and will have received your GED by June 30, 2023, you are eligible to apply.
I am currently in college. Can I apply?
If you are currently attending college as a freshman or sophomore and are no older than 20 years of age as of August 1, 2023, you may apply.
Is there a minimum SAT or ACT score requirement?
No.
What if my SAT or ACT score changes after I submit my application?
Should I update you on my scores? No. The scores you submit on or before the February deadline are sufficient.
Is there a minimum grade point average requirement?
Yes. All high school applicants must have and maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. All college applicants must have a 2.75 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Do I have to be a United States citizen to apply for a scholarship?
Applicants are required to be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident (in possession of a Permanent Resident Card) in the process of becoming a U.S. citizen.
Is there an income limit?
Financial need is an important factor in awarding this scholarship.
Whose income should be listed if my parents are separated or divorced?
You should list the income of the parent/guardian with whom you lived with for most of this past year. If you are not listed on that tax return, please include a note that briefly explains the situation.
Can I use the Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarship at any college and for any major?
All scholarships may be used at an educational institution that normally maintains a regular faculty and curriculum, that normally has a regularly organized body of students in attendance, and that is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as being accredited by recognized accrediting agencies. All scholarship recipients may pursue any major of their choice leading to a bachelor’s degree. If the educational institution is a technical college, you do not have to be a degree-seeking candidate.

The Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarship award amount varies depending on the need of the student. The award amount ranges from $500 to $5,000 per year. The award may be renewed annually for a maximum of four academic years (or eight semesters) as long as all requirements are fulfilled.
If I am awarded a Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarship, how do I receive my scholarship funds?
You will be contacted by the Jimmy Rane Foundation with scholarship award details.
Do I have restrictions on how to spend my scholarship funds?
Yes. Scholarship funds may only be used for tuition and fees, books, supplies and equipment, room and board, and travel or research that are incidental to the purposes of this scholarship. Upon the Foundation’s approval, you may also be able to use your funds for approved internships and study abroad programs.
If I am awarded other scholarships or financial aid, does it affect my eligibility for a Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarship?
No. You are still eligible; however, the amount awarded may be adjusted. The only other exception is if you receive a scholarship that covers all of your expenses. We would ask that you notify the Foundation so that we may re-award the scholarship funds.
When are the winners notified? Are all applicants notified?
Awardees are notified personally, by phone in mid-April. All other applicants are notified by email.
Where does funding for the Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarship come from?
The Jimmy Rane Charity Golf Tournament is the only fundraising event held by the Foundation, which is supported by sponsorships.
