NAACP Scholarships for Afro-American
NAACP Scholarships provide need-based and merit scholarships to outstanding and qualified Black students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees as part its Inspire Initiatives program.
One of the ways that the NAACP supports its mission of achieving social justice for African Americans is through the provision of scholarships .

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for an NAACP scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a member of the NAACP: You must be a member of the NAACP and have a valid membership card. If you are not a member you can join through the organisation portal
- Be a citizen or legal resident of the United States: You must be a citizen or legal resident of the United States.
- Be African American or a person of colour.
- Have a minimum GPA: You must have a minimum GPA of 3 or above on a 4.0 scale.
- Applicants must be enrolled in or accepted to an accredited college or university in the United States.
- Demonstrate interest in a relevant field of study where applicable.
- Demonstrate financial need: You must demonstrate financial need by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Types of NAACP Scholarships
The NAACP offers several scholarships to help students achieve their academic and career goals. Here are some of the scholarships that are currently available:
Agnes Jones Jackson Scholarship: This is a non-renewable scholarship opportunity in honours of the late Agnes Jones Jackson who was a long-time NAACP member from the San Francisco branch. Available to the blacks student through the NAACP inspire initiative.
Hubertus W.V. Willems Scholarship: The Hubertus W. V. Willems Scholarship is one of many funding opportunities available to Black male students interested in pursuing a career in the fields of engineering, chemistry, physics, and/or mathematical sciences through NAACP’s Inspire Initiatives.
It provides scholarships worth $3000 to outstanding and qualified students pursuing undergraduate studies.
The NAACP X Society Awards Scholarship: The NAACP x Society Awards Scholarship is awarded to students interested in pursuing a career in the visual/performing arts field including film, theatre, fashion, photography, graphic design, dance, music, journalism, and mass communications.
The society provide three scholarships totalled $8,000 to recipients with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, with first, second and third awardee receiving $5000, $2000 and $1000 respectively.
Uplift Scholarship: The Uplift Scholarship is one of many funding opportunities available to Black students through NAACP’s Inspire Initiatives. We offer scholarships to outstanding and qualified students pursuing undergraduate degrees.
