FIU Scholarships Overview

Florida International University  offers a variety of scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate students scholarships which are primarily merit-based and are awarded based on academic achievement, leadership potential, and community involvement.

However, some scholarships may also consider financial need as a factor. Here are the main types of scholarships available at FIU:

Merit Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement demonstrated by your GPA, leadership potential, and community involvement. Students who have achieved exceptional academic records or have demonstrated leadership potential and community involvement may be considered for these scholarships.

Incoming freshman and transfer students can apply for several FIU and national merit scholarships.

Examples of merit-based scholarships include the Presidential Scholarship, Gold and Blue Scholarships, FIU Merit Finalist, Raise.Me Micro-scholarships, FIU College board Recognition Program Scholarship, Ambassador Mert scholarships.

Prestigious Scholarship

Prestigious scholarships support undergraduate and graduate study, education abroad, research, and other academic endeavors. These awards are nationally-competitive, and some require institutional nomination.

The FIU Office of Prestigious Scholar Development supports undergraduates, graduate students, and recent alumni applying for these awards and also oversees institutional nominations for awards such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell, Truman, Goldwater, and Udall.

FIU Departmental Scholarships

This Scholarships are awards that are funded individually by the college, school or department within FIU.

Example: “The School of Journalism offers a $1,000 scholarship for students admitted to their program.”

  • Complete the General Application. FIU Scholarship Search will recommend scholarships for you based on your application

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for scholarships, students must meet certain eligibility requirements. These requirements varies depending on the type of scholarship. Here are some general eligibility requirements:

  • Be admitted to FIU as a degree-seeking student.
  • Demonstrate academic achievement, leadership potential, or community involvement.
  • Meet academic eligibility: for example first year merit scholarship for incoming first year student provides  Awards 100% tuition and fees plus a book stipend for Presidential Premier Students with 4.0 GPA and 1370 SAT / or 30 ACT and . Awards 75% tuition and fees plus a book stipend for Ambassador Premier category  i.e Students with 4.0 GPA and 1280 SAT or 27 ACT score.

National Merit – Students who qualify for Presidential/Ambassador scholarships and are selected as a finalist for this award. It covers  full tuition, fees, room and board, up to the cost of attendance as published by the Office of Student Financials.

How to Apply:

To apply for scholarships at FIU, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Scholarship Application. The FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for need-based scholarships, while the FIU Scholarship Application is used to determine eligibility for merit-based and talent-based scholarships.
