Leventis Postdoctoral Fellowship for Nigerians
The Centre of African Studies of the University of London invites applications from Nigerian academics for the leventis postdoctoral fellowship program to take part in a scheme of collaborative research funded by the Leventis Foundation.
The application is currently ongoing for the leventis fellowship program which is devised to assist younger scholars develop their research interests in collaboration with their counterparts in London. This fellowship program is specially packaged for postgraduate students from Nigeria to partake in collaborative research funded by Leventis Foundation in London.

About leventis foundation
Leventis Foundation, which had been active since 1979. In support of the Federal Government’s new Educational Program with its emphasis on self-sufficiency in food production, the Foundation took a major policy decision in 1986 by choosing as its main goal the training of young farmers in modern agricultural methods.
Presently the foundation have established nine schools in Nigeria and Ghana specializing in innovative ways of training small scale farmers to improve productivity, efficiency and environmental sensitivity, taking advantage of the latest research at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture and elsewhere.
The trainees spend a year at the schools and then, returning to their farms and communities, are advised and supported by the schools’ extension programs.
The Foundation has been running agricultural training for youths and farmers since 1987 and currently has six schools in the different agro-ecological zones of Nigeria. The schools located in the FCT, Osun, Kaduna, Kano and Gombe states. The Foundation supports and finances ad-hoc but strategic initiatives that can improve agricultural education and training towards a sustainable development of the agriculture and rural sector of the economy in the sub-region.
Leventis Postdoctoral Fellowship Worth and Benefits
The fellowship might be particularly appropriate for scholars working up a PhD thesis into publishable form. Successful Applicants will spend three months as visitors of the Centre of African Studies in order to pursue their research in libraries and archives and to participate in the intellectual life of the Centre.
Who is eligible for the leventis postdoctoral fellowship?
To be considered for the fellowship, you have to apply online and provide the following documents:
- Some complete curriculum vitae (maximum of two pages)
- A statement of current research interests (of not more than 1,000 words) specifying the aims to be achieved during the research period in London
- One academic reference letter supporting the application
